Kog’Maw is one of League of Legends’ purest hyper-carry ADCs — enormous late-game DPS from Bio-Arcane Barrage and Void Ooze, but almost no mobility and no defensive tools of his own. Every good Kog’Maw support pick exists to cover one of two holes: keeping him alive long enough to matter, or setting up the range advantage his kit already has. The picks below come from current bot-lane synergy guides rather than gut feeling, and they split cleanly into a protect group and an engage group.
Lulu — the default safe pick
Lulu is consistently rated the single best Kog’Maw support because her whole kit maps onto his weaknesses. Whimsy and Wild Growth peel dive threats off him, Help, Pix! adds a shield and attack speed on top of his own passive ramp, and Polymorph buys time when he’s caught out of position. She turns Kog’Maw’s biggest liability — being one-shot-able with zero escape — into a non-issue as long as she has mana and cooldowns up.
Braum — face-tank the engage
Braum pairs well with Kog’Maw because he can physically stand in front of him. Unbreakable blocks the skillshot or auto-attack that would otherwise delete Kog’Maw, Concussive Blows stacks a stun that punishes anyone who dives, and his passive armor/MR aura reduces incoming damage on both champions. He’s a strong pick specifically against lanes with hard engage (hooks, dashes) since he can body-block that engage entirely.
Blitzcrank — turn Kog’Maw into a kill lane
Rocket Grab yanks an enemy directly into Kog’Maw’s max range, which is the opposite problem most ADCs have (they want distance; Blitzcrank removes it from the enemy instead). A landed hook into a Kog’Maw auto-attack/Bio-Arcane Barrage combo is one of the highest-damage bot lane combos available at level 6, and Static Field punishes anyone who tries to walk up.
Morgana — shield against exactly what kills him
Kog’Maw’s death almost always comes from a single hard-CC ability landing on him — a hook, a root, a stun — followed by burst. Black Shield removes that entire failure mode for its duration, and Dark Binding lets Morgana set up kills of her own. She’s a particularly good answer into lanes built around one big CC ability (Blitzcrank, Thresh, Leona) rather than sustained poke.
Milio and Janna — alternative protect picks
Milio brings healing, a cleanse-adjacent tenacity buff through Warm Hugs, and a knockback on his ultimate that can peel a diver off Kog’Maw entirely. Janna offers a similar profile with Eye of the Storm’s shield and attack speed, a slow via Zephyr, and a disengage knockup on her ultimate. Both are safer, lower-mechanical-skill alternatives to Lulu when Kog’Maw needs uptime more than burst peel.
Karma — the poke-lane answer
Against lanes with long-range poke that out-range early Kog’Maw, Karma’s Inspire shield plus the bonus movement speed from her mantra-empowered abilities helps close the range gap and survive to the point where Kog’Maw’s own range takes over the matchup. She also brings a strong engage tool with Mantra-empowered Focused Resolve for all-in windows.
How to choose between them
If the enemy bot lane has one big hard-CC engage tool, prioritize Morgana or Braum — both directly answer it. If the enemy lane is going to dive repeatedly or all-in early, Lulu’s sustained peel and Milio’s disengage buy the most time. If Kog’Maw’s own team wants to force fights, Blitzcrank turns him into a lane that wins 2v2 all-ins outright. There’s no single correct answer — the right support is the one that neutralizes whatever is most likely to kill Kog’Maw in that specific matchup.
