Spectral Blades has fallen behind other Hunter supers in the current Renegades-era sandbox — it’s slow to charge and generally outclassed in raw damage by other options — but if you’re committed to running it, one exotic is built specifically around making it work.
Gwisin Vest — the dedicated pick
The Gwisin Vest is a Hunter exotic chest piece whose Roving Assassin perk restores extra Super energy for each kill scored with Spectral Blades before you go back into stealth. That refund is what makes the exotic worth building around: chain enough kills together and you can stay in Spectral Blades far longer than the super’s base energy would normally allow.
Where it actually performs
Gwisin Vest’s strength shows up most in PvE content with clusters of weaker enemies — strikes, Lost Sectors, and add-heavy raid or dungeon encounters — where you can chain multiple stealth kills in quick succession and keep the Super energy refund flowing. In the Crucible, the stealth-and-strike loop can also frustrate opponents who lose track of you between kills, though it’s a harder sell there than in PvE given how much Crucible has shifted toward faster time-to-kill weapons and abilities.
The honest caveat
Even with Gwisin Vest, Spectral Blades isn’t considered a top-tier Hunter super in the current meta — it’s a specific, somewhat build-dependent playstyle rather than a generically strong pick. If you’re optimizing purely for damage or Super uptime with no attachment to the Spectral Blades identity, other Hunter supers currently outperform it. Gwisin Vest is the right call specifically if you want to keep using this super and get the most out of it, not a recommendation to switch into Spectral Blades for its own sake.

- Prioritize kills over survivability when chasing the Roving Assassin refund — each confirmed kill is what extends your Super, not time spent alive.
- Void subclass fragments and mods that boost melee or ability regen pair naturally with a build that’s cycling in and out of stealth repeatedly.
- Treat this as a PvE-first build; go in expecting a tougher matchup in competitive PvP modes where faster kill times work against the stealth-and-strike loop.
