The important word is dedicated. Other Hunter Exotics can improve a build’s neutral game, weapons, dodge, grenades, or survivability, but they do not extend this roaming Super through its own attacks. Pick them for those separate jobs. Pick Gwisin Vest when the point of the build is to get more value from Spectral Blades itself.
What Gwisin Vest actually rewards
Roving Assassin rewards a sequence, not passive time spent with the Super active. Land Spectral Blades hits or final blows, then use the Super’s invisibility transition to cash in the energy return. The more successful actions before that transition, the larger the return described by the perk. That means the armor has real value where there are reachable targets and a safe route from one to the next. It has much less to offer when a lone target is far away, when an encounter has long gaps between enemies, or when a player must spend the entire Super escaping danger.
A good practical habit is to regard every stealth transition as a decision point. Do not swing until the meter is empty and hope the perk rescues the duration. Take a quick look at nearby targets, secure the hits or final blow available, then use invisibility while you still have a route to the next group. The follow-up weakening smoke is most useful as space-making utility: exit invisibility close enough for the cloud to matter, then either take the weakened target or use the moment to reposition. It is not a reason to run into a dangerous cluster without an exit.
How to use the Super
Spectral Blades is a Void Hunter roaming Super built around two Void blades. Its light attack is the fast close-range strike. Its heavy attack weakens a target and returns the Hunter to invisibility. Those controls make a simple loop: approach under cover, use the light attack for a nearby target, use the heavy attack when weakening or disappearing gives a better next position, then repeat only while there is a clean path forward.
Gwisin Vest adds a reason to keep that loop deliberate. The aim is not to treat the heavy attack as a damage button on every target. It is the transition that activates the Exotic’s Super-energy behavior. A target that will survive a rushed lunge, an open lane with several enemy angles, or a gap with no next target all make poor moments to commit. In contrast, a compact pack of manageable enemies lets a player score actions, turn invisible, and move before the group can collapse on them.
Where the chest piece fits best
- Enemy-dense PvE: Look for short distances between lower-risk targets. The perk needs hits or final blows before invisibility, so a chain is more realistic there than in a sparse boss arena.
- Objective cleanup: Use the Super to clear a route or protect an objective when you can identify the next cover position. The weakening smoke can help create a small opening after you leave invisibility.
- Crucible roaming: Treat invisibility as information control and repositioning, not invulnerability. A single aggressive lunge into opponents who can see the approach is unlikely to produce the multiple actions that make the Exotic special.
Build around the job, not a supposed damage ranking
There is no need to claim that Spectral Blades wins every activity for Gwisin Vest to be the best matching Exotic. Its value is unusually clear: the perk names Spectral Blades and returns Super energy through the Super’s own loop. Build the rest of the loadout to make that loop easier. Choose weapons you can use at the ranges where the Super is unsafe, and keep an escape or cover route in mind before activating. A Void Hunter’s ordinary invisibility tools can help between Super casts, but they do not replace careful target selection while roaming.
Armor stat priorities should follow the rest of the loadout and the activity. There is no universal stat distribution hidden in Gwisin Vest. Favor the attributes that support the abilities and survivability you actually use, then test the loop in the activity that prompted the build. If the Super regularly ends with no targets nearby, a different approach to timing will matter more than changing armor mods. If it ends during a target-rich section, practice banking the transition after productive hits instead of wasting it at the end.
Limits to keep in mind
Gwisin Vest cannot turn a missed attack, an unreachable enemy, or a hazardous approach into a successful chain. Its refund depends on Spectral Blades actions before invisibility, so it is inherently situational. Boss-focused damage phases and distant targets do not naturally feed the perk. Players looking for a neutral-game Exotic should compare their preferred alternatives on their own merits rather than assuming an Exotic made for one Super is best everywhere.
There is also a current Bungie-known issue worth remembering: using a Finisher while Spectral Blades is active cancels the Super and drains the remaining Super energy. Avoid a Finisher during the roam when the plan is to preserve the chain. Finish with the blades or disengage; do not risk the entire activation for a Finisher animation.
For a Spectral Blades specialist, the recommendation is simple: equip Gwisin Vest, plan routes through groups rather than charging the nearest target, and use the invisibility transition after meaningful hits or final blows. It is the Exotic that directly pays the player for executing Spectral Blades’ intended rhythm.
