Water types are some of the most reliable Pokémon in Pokémon FireRed — strong against the game’s Fire, Ground, and Rock specialists, and easy to find. Here are the best Water-type Pokémon to build your Kanto team around.
Gyarados
Evolve a patiently-trained Magikarp and you get one of FireRed’s premier attackers. Gyarados boasts huge Attack, Intimidate, and access to moves that crush much of the Elite Four. Watch its 4x Electric weakness.
Starmie
Fast and versatile, Starmie (from a Water Stone on Staryu) is a fantastic special attacker with great Speed and a wide movepool including Surf, Ice Beam, Psychic, and Thunderbolt — a true glass-cannon sweeper.
Lapras
A bulky Water/Ice tank with excellent coverage. Lapras tanks hits, learns Surf and Ice Beam, and gives you a strong answer to Dragon, Flying, and Grass threats.
Vaporeon
Evolve Eevee with a Water Stone for a wall with enormous HP. Vaporeon soaks damage, heals, and dishes reliable special damage — a great defensive pivot.
Blastoise
