Best Stand At Old Trafford

Old Trafford’s pitch is ringed by four covered stands, and which one is “best” really depends on what you’re going to the match for — atmosphere, sightlines, or a family-friendly experience are three genuinely different priorities.

The four stands

  • Stretford End — widely considered the soul of Old Trafford, home to the club’s loudest supporters and the source of most of the stadium’s chants. Seats positioned slightly higher up in this stand are the most sought-after for atmosphere specifically.
  • Sir Alex Ferguson Stand (formerly North Stand) — the largest and most modern of the four, offering panoramic, elevated, uninterrupted views that are ideal for reading the full tactical shape of play rather than just following the ball.
  • Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (formerly South Stand) — home to some of the most expensive tickets in the ground, with the best sightlines concentrated in the lower and middle tiers near the halfway line.
  • East Stand — commonly known as the “Family Stand,” popular with younger supporters and families, and typically home to the cheapest available tickets at Old Trafford.

How to choose

  • Want the full matchday atmosphere and to be part of the singing? Go for a higher section of the Stretford End.
  • Want the clearest tactical view of the whole pitch? The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand’s elevated panoramic view is hard to beat.
  • Want the best pure sightline at the best price you’re willing to pay? Look at the lower/middle tiers of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand near the halfway line.
  • Bringing kids or on a budget? The East Stand offers both the friendliest crowd for families and the most affordable tickets in the ground.
