The Bestop Trektop NX Glide is a popular aftermarket soft top for the Jeep Wrangler JL, built around sliding side windows that let you open them without unzipping anything — but owners report a consistent set of issues worth knowing about before or after you install one.
Water leaks at the rear pillars and door rails
The most frequently reported complaint is leaking around the back pillar on both the driver and passenger rear windows during rain. Some owners also report leaks behind the front doors, with water filling the door rail channel and eventually overflowing into the footwell during heavy rain — enough to genuinely soak a passenger’s feet in some reported cases.
The rear window doesn’t roll up
Unlike a conventional soft top, the NX Glide’s sliding rear window can’t be rolled up and stored the way a standard soft-top window can — it has to come out and be stored flat, usually in a separate storage bag Bestop sells for this purpose. Several owners describe wrestling the window into the bag as one of the more annoying parts of ownership, especially compared to simply rolling a window down.
Window slide and fit issues
Some owners report the window sliders popping out a few inches at the rear corners (usually hidden under the canvas once fully seated), and a few report the top sitting loose at the front two corners. Others report no fit issues at all and a tight, ballooning-free install, suggesting installation quality and vehicle-to-vehicle variation play a real role here.
Installation problems
A recurring installation complaint involves the factory pilot holes being undersized for the included self-tapping screws, which can cause screws to snap off during install rather than seat properly. Taking it slow and not overtightening during the initial mounting reduces this risk.
What owners do about it
- Check and reseal the rear pillar and door rail seams if you notice water intrusion — several owners report this significantly reduces or eliminates the leaking.
- Budget for the separate window storage bag if you plan to remove the rear window often, since it doesn’t roll away on its own.
- Go slow on self-tapping screws during install, and consider slightly pre-drilling tight pilot holes rather than forcing a screw that’s binding.
- Bestop’s customer service has had mixed reviews from owners dealing with leaks, so document any issue with photos early if you think you’ll need a warranty claim.
