WotLK Classic ties five major factions to dungeon tabards — Wyrmrest Accord, Kirin Tor, Ebon Blade, Argent Crusade, and the Sons of Hodir — meaning any level-80 heroic or Northrend dungeon can grind that reputation once you’re wearing the right tabard. The ‘best’ dungeon isn’t really about the dungeon itself; it’s about run speed and whether the faction can be tabard-farmed at all.
Tabard farming: pick speed over difficulty
Since equipping a faction tabard grants reputation from every kill inside a dungeon (not just bosses), the fastest, most spammable dungeon wins — not the ‘correct’ one for that faction. Utgarde Keep and The Nexus are the community’s go-to picks for tabard grinding because they’re short, have simple trash paths, and can be cleared quickly even by an undergeared group.
Factions that can’t be tabard-farmed
The Sons of Hodir is the major exception — it isn’t unlocked through a dungeon tabard at all. You have to complete its introductory quest chain first, then earn reputation through daily quests, turning in relics found while flying around The Storm Peaks, and (once available) Commendation Badges from Argent Tournament dailies.
Recommended order by goal
- Casters wanting the Kirin Tor cloak/enchants: prioritize Kirin Tor dungeon or daily rep first, since the itemization unlocks (cloak enchant, trinket, wand) matter early.
- Plate/weapon-focused classes: Wyrmrest Accord first — its rewards include strong early weapons.
- Everyone: start the Sons of Hodir quest chain as soon as it’s available, since its dailies are the bottleneck and can’t be sped up with dungeon spam.
Bottom line
For tabard-based factions, run the shortest, fastest dungeon you can clear efficiently — Utgarde Keep and The Nexus are the standard picks — rather than hunting for a ‘best’ dungeon tied to lore or theme. For Sons of Hodir, start the unlock chain immediately since it’s daily-quest gated and can’t be rushed with dungeon runs.
