Start with the exact SKRR coil family
The Vaporesso SKRR and SKRR-S are sub-ohm tanks built around the QF replacement-coil family. That family name matters more than a coil’s outside diameter or a retailer’s photo: a coil that looks similar can have different seals, airflow geometry, contact position, or resistance. The original SKRR-S documentation identifies the supplied QF Strip 0.15 ohm and QF Meshed 0.2 ohm heads, while Vaporesso’s QF compatibility page identifies the SKRR-S as a compatible atomizer. QF Strip and QF Meshed: what the labels mean
QF Strip and QF Meshed are two distinct coil constructions, not two interchangeable descriptions for every SKRR head. Vaporesso listed the QF Strip at 0.15 ohm and the QF Meshed at 0.2 ohm in the SKRR-S package. Both are low-resistance, high-output coils and the original kit documentation gives a 50–80 W recommended range. Resistance is an electrical characteristic, not a quality ranking. The lower-resistance 0.15-ohm head can draw more current at a given voltage than a 0.2-ohm head; it is not automatically the better choice for every device, battery condition, or liquid.
Coil material and wick construction should be read from the actual packaging or manufacturer specification for the exact revision. Do not infer a temperature-control setting from the words mesh or strip. A mesh-shaped heating element can be made from different alloys, and a device mode that is inappropriate for the material can behave unpredictably. When documentation is missing, use the device’s ordinary regulated wattage mode only within the coil maker’s stated range rather than guessing at a temperature-control profile.
Set power conservatively and watch the whole system
A printed wattage range is a boundary, not an instruction to begin at its upper end. Start at the low end stated for the exact QF head, take a short test draw after the wick has saturated, and increase gradually only if the result remains normal. Keep the mod’s resistance reading in view. A sudden large change from the coil’s marked resistance, an unstable reading, repeated low-resistance warnings, or heat at the tank connection calls for stopping use and inspecting the coil, base, seals, and device rather than continuing to raise power.
Battery suitability is part of coil compatibility. A sub-ohm tank on a regulated dual-cell device is not a reason to ignore cell condition, charger instructions, torn wraps, or mismatched batteries. Use only the battery type and configuration specified by the device manufacturer, keep paired removable cells together, and replace damaged cells rather than covering damage with tape. Do not carry loose lithium-ion cells with keys or coins. Charging ports, external chargers, and battery limits are device-specific; follow the device manual rather than assuming that one 18650 or 21700 setup is equivalent to another.
Prime a new coil before the first draw
Priming means allowing e-liquid to reach the wick before heat is applied. With the tank removed from the mod, install the correct QF head squarely and make sure its O-rings have not rolled or pinched. Fill the tank through its intended fill opening, close it fully, and leave it upright long enough for the wick to saturate. The exact waiting time varies with liquid thickness, coil condition, and temperature, so the useful check is not a stopwatch: do not fire a coil that has not had a chance to absorb liquid. Begin at low power and use short draws. A dry or singed taste is a stop signal, not something to burn through.
Very thick liquids move through cotton more slowly, particularly in a cool environment. Chain vaping can also outpace wick supply. If the flavor becomes muted, sharp, or hot, let the tank rest and check liquid level before trying again. Repeated dry hits can permanently damage the wick; adding more liquid afterward does not restore a scorched coil. Replace a visibly darkened, damaged, or persistently off-tasting coil instead of trying to extend its service life indefinitely.
Leak diagnosis begins with assembly
Not every drop near an airflow slot means a failed coil. Condensation can collect under a drip tip, while true leakage often follows an open fill port, a loose base, a missing seal, a cracked glass section, or a coil that is not seated fully. Disassemble the tank on a paper towel, clean the threads and contact area, inspect every O-ring, and reassemble it without overtightening. A cross-threaded base or a coil pushed in at an angle can leave a channel for liquid to escape.
Keep the tank upright when practical and avoid leaving it in a hot vehicle or direct sun. Changes in temperature and air pressure can move liquid through the airflow path. Filling above the intended level or filling through the center airflow tube can create immediate flooding. If gurgling follows a refill, remove excess liquid from the airflow area and check that the coil and seals are correctly seated. Do not use tools that nick gaskets or force a stuck glass section; replacement seals and glass should match the exact SKRR version.
