Which Baby Beast Coil Should You Run?

The SMOK Alien 220W kit shipped with the TFV8 Baby Beast tank, so “best coil for the Alien” in practice means best TFV8 Baby Beast coil. The Alien itself is a discontinued mod — it was one of the best-selling box mods of the late 2010s and plenty are still in daily use, but SMOK no longer produces it, and coil availability is now the limiting factor rather than choice.

The Coil Range, and What Each One Is For

  • V8 Baby-Q2 (0.4Ω, dual core) — the stock coil in most Alien kits and the all-day default. Rated roughly 55-65W, which sits comfortably inside what the Alien delivers. If you are unsure, this is the one.
  • V8 Baby-T8 (0.15Ω, octuple core) — the maximum-vapour option. Eight cores need real wattage and drain batteries fast; only worth it if you are chasing clouds and running fresh cells.
  • V8 Baby-T6 (0.2Ω, sextuple core) — the sensible middle of the cloud coils. Most of the T8’s output without living at the top of the mod’s range.
  • V8 Baby-X4 (0.15Ω, quad core) — low resistance but a more modest 45-60W band, so you get strong vapour without pushing the mod hard.
  • V8 Baby-Q4 (0.4Ω, quad core) — the Q2’s resistance spread over four cores. More surface area means more flavour delivery in the same 50-60W range.
  • V8 Baby-M2 (0.25-0.3Ω, dual core) — a mellower lower-power coil. Worth trying if the Q2 reads as either too hot or too thin for your taste.

Watch Out for Counterfeits

Baby Beast coils are among the most widely counterfeited vape parts there are. Fakes typically use inferior wick and wire, taste burnt within a day or two, and can read a wildly wrong resistance on the mod — which is a safety issue, not just an annoyance. Buy from a vape retailer that authenticates its stock and check the scratch-code on the packaging against SMOK’s own verification page. Because the Alien is discontinued, so-called new old stock is common, and old stock is where counterfeits and dried-out coils concentrate.

Getting a Full Life Out of a Coil

  • Prime it properly. Wet every visible wicking port, fill the tank, then leave it standing 10-15 minutes. Nearly every “this coil arrived burnt” complaint is a dry first hit.
  • Start below the rating. Run the first few pulls 10W under the printed range and work up.
  • Sweet and dark liquids kill coils. Heavy sucralose desserts will gunk a coil in days; the coil is not defective.
  • Higher VG needs a bigger port. Thick 70/30+ liquid struggles to wick into the tighter low-resistance coils, which is what causes dry hits at high wattage.

If Coils Get Hard to Find

The Baby Beast fitment is shared across several SMOK tanks of that era, so coils remain in circulation, but supply is thinning as the platform ages. If you are keeping an Alien going long-term, the practical options are to buy known-good coils in quantity while they are still stocked, or to move to a current tank with the same 510 connection and an in-production coil line. The mod itself will happily drive either.
