The Savage 10 BA Stealth is a bolt-action rifle family whose details vary by production run, chambering, barrel length and chassis configuration. Identify the fore-end interface
Begin with the full model designation, chambering, serial information and applicable owner manual. With the firearm unloaded, action open and ammunition in another location, inspect the fore-end underside and sides. A chassis may use a sling-stud point, a Picatinny rail, M-LOK slots, another modular interface, or a combination. Those are different systems. A sling-stud attachment is not a rail clamp, and an M-LOK accessory is not a screw passed through a convenient hole. Confirm that an attachment cannot contact the barrel, magazine, action, trigger guard or moving parts.
A sling-stud interface uses an existing stud or purpose-designed attachment. Check that the stud is tight, undamaged and intended to bear the load. A Picatinny interface uses transverse slots: a clamp must seat fully on the rail and its crossbolt must engage a slot rather than pinch an edge. M-LOK uses rotating T-nuts that must sit correctly behind the slot with the specified orientation and clearance. An adapter is a separate component whose own fasteners and torque requirements matter. Never drill a chassis, substitute unknown hardware or force an interface when fitment is unclear; consult the manufacturer or a qualified gunsmith.
Height, stance and cant
Support height must match the real shooting position. A low setup can work on a flat prone surface but may leave too little room for grass, rocks, a magazine or a natural head position. A taller setup can suit uneven ground or seated use, but tall legs can flex and become unstable when opened narrowly. Measure from the intended surface while maintaining a safe, repeatable cheek position. Test all movement with the firearm unloaded.
Stance is the distance between the feet. A wider stance commonly resists side movement better, but needs space and may not suit a narrow bench. Cant is roll left or right relative to the horizon. A support that permits controlled cant can help level the rifle on uneven ground, but it does not replace a stable position or confirmed zero. If a mechanism locks, learn how it locks and inspect it for slip or excess play before live use. Load ratings do not establish compatibility by themselves: fore-end, adapter, fasteners and support all have to carry the rifle safely.
Installation and range procedure
Follow the manual for tool choice and torque. Over-tightening can strip threads, crush an adapter or deform a chassis; under-tightening can shift and affect zero. After fitting, perform a no-ammunition function check: operate the action, check an empty magazine if applicable, verify that controls remain clear and confirm that the barrel and support do not touch through ordinary movement. Do not use a support as a carry handle, tie-down point or lever.
Initial testing belongs at an approved range or lawful location with a suitable backstop, eye and hearing protection and rules permitting the setup. Start from a stable position and inspect the interface after transport and after controlled shots. If it loosens, shifts, contacts the barrel or alters handling unexpectedly, unload and stop rather than correcting it on the firing line. Keep joints clear of mud and sand.
Storage and law
Transport and store the rifle unloaded and secured in accordance with local law. Store ammunition separately where required and restrict unauthorised access.
